Hey Schmoo,

Congrats on your Twitter writing – it's actually hard for a lot of writers to write that concisely, even for a joke! Ha!

Whether it's fiction or non-fiction, writing starts the same way: By getting BIC (butt-in-chair) and writing a little bit every day. At first, you may not know what you want to write about, but that's ok; this isn't a time for pressure. Go ahead and write about what happened yesterday. Or use a writing prompt to write a quick, imaginative story. Or just describe the room around you.

Your "writing muscle" is like any other muscle in your body. The more you use it, the stronger it'll become. Soon you'll probably write something you want to expand on, or that you realize is pretty darn good. As far as I'm concerned, that's good enough to start calling yourself a writer. But don't stop! Keep that momentum going and soon you could have a short story, an article or even a book under your belt. And that's no joke!
