Does your writing life need prayer? Mine does! I keep coming back to the Serenity Prayer for my writing life. Remember it?

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. –Reinhold Niebuhr

I ask myself questions like:

  • What can I change?
  • What can I not change?
  • Can I change my knowledge and therefore improve my craft? (Yes!)
  • Can I change the strength of my platform? (Yes!)
  • Can I change my schedule so I can change the amount of time I write? (Yes...and no!)

Yes, I can use the techniques Chris gives in his article, The Surefire Cure for a Lack of Self-Discipline, and use my time more productively.

But, I also need to accept the limitations I face with my schedule.

The fact is, like many, I’m busy and my desire to write my own work doesn’t always line up with my time available. Time is short; desire is long.

In those moment, I need to accept the things I can’t change and be at peace, knowing that my current season of life isn’t forever.

If you can relate, if your desire to write is sometimes outmaneuvered by your time to write, if your desire to build your author platform is limited by your knowledge of how to do it, then be encouraged.

Take small steps.

Use the techniques Chris recommends to make your plans happen and your platform stronger.

But be patient with yourself. You’ll get there, one line, one post, one chapter at a time.

Keep writing. Keep pushing toward your goal. We’re in your corner, cheering you on!
